"Shoppers are starting to think twice about the safety of their groceries. Sixty-three percent of consumers consider grocery foods safe, according to The NPD Group, a Chicago-based market research company. That number is down from 68 percent in 2004, and not exactly a testament of faith in grocery food safety.

The percentage of Americans who believe restaurant food is safe remains even, at around 49 percent.
